I do love a challenge, but you know that right? 😉
Dominic over at the Belleau Kitchen blog issues a monthly Random Recipe Challenge and this month i thought i’d take part, especially as he’s teamed up with the Chocolate Log Blog to theme Februarys challenge around chocolate *dribbles*
So i have to randomly select a recipe book, and then randomly select a recipe that includes chocolate…..ok…..here goes 🙂
Most of my cookery books are in storage (as i moved house in November) but i did recently stumble across a small book that I’ve had for years called “Sweets & Chocolates” which was published by Murdoch Books (heres its listing on Amazon). Ive always meant to use it, but just never quite got around to it. I used a Random Number Generator and ended up with page 48…Chocolate Truffles. And as it’s Valentines Day I know exactly who I’ll be giving these to 🙂
- 300g good quality dark chocolate (i used Green & Blacks)
- 90g unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup cream
- 2 tablespoons of Brandy
- cocoa powder to coat
- Chop chocolate and place in a heat resistant bowl. Combine butter and cream in a saucepan and stir over a low heat until the butter has melted. Bring to the boil, remove and pour over the chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is cool.
- Cool the mixture in the fridge, stirring occasionally and when firm enough to handle roll heaped spoonfuls of the mixture into balls.
- Sift cocoa powder onto a plate and roll each truffle in the powder until coated. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Ok, I started thinking that really, the possibilities are endless with this recipe! White chocolate rolled in coconut, Ameretto (sp?) instead of Brandy…different flavours of hot chocolate to roll the balls in, adding nuts, chopped glace cherries, stem ginger…and breath! 😉
So heres what i made… White Chocolate with Raspberry flavouring and Dark Chocolate with Disaronno.
And if The Hubster is reading this…. Happy Valentines Day! You can eat your truffles now…but i will want a white one 😉
